Marching to Wimbledon

July 30th 2015, Wimbledon 2015. Andy Murray steps onto center court on Tuesday as one of the two favorites to win the trophy. The other obviously being Novak Djokovic. It is hard to go against these two considering the form they are in heading into this year’s Wimbledon. Although Djokovic was outplayed by Wawrinka at the French Open final, he is by far the best player this season. For Murray, he has been playing well and this has been the best preparation he has ever had coming into this year’s third grand slam tournament. Both Djokovic and Murray are previous winners here in Wimbledon, so they know how to win it all. With both guys on course to meet in the final, Murray might have the slight edge to win this year’s Wimbledon. Andy Murray was so close to beat Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the French Open. But, he still comes up short. Murray couldn’t ask for a better clay court season. He won his first ever clay court title at Munich. Then followed up by beating Nadal in Mad

2015 NBA Finals (Game 6): Strength in Numbers

The exact words printed on the T-shirts of the Warriors’ players and fans sitting in Oracle Arena. Indeed, they had the strength in numbers. After a virtually perfect season for the Warriors, they finally nailed the NBA title after 40 years. A fantastic season that will be hard to emulate in the future. They finished off the regular season with a 67-15 record, their best record in franchise history. They also had some luck on their side. The Warriors didn’t suffer any major injuries. The front office took a gamble by hiring a rookie coach. And also, playing with teams in the playoffs that are facing injuries issues. Although it shall be mentioned that, they earned that luck because of the strength of the bench they had. GM Bob Myers made significant additions to the bench before the start of the season, bringing in Shaun Livingston and Leonard Barbosa, both who made significant contributions during this playoffs run. For basketball neutrals, perhaps everybody could have a

2015 NBA Finals (Game 5): One Step Away

Yes, the Golden State Warriors is just one step away from winning their first ever NBA title in 40 years. Obviously, MVP Stephen Curry had a superb performance by scoring 37 points including 7 three-pointers, perhaps his best performance in this finals series. Even LeBron James’ triple-double can’t save the Cavs from losing. Once again, fatigue caught up with the Cavs players, and a poor 4th quarter performance eventually separated the winner and the loser in Game 5. Despite the Warriors being a game away from title, that doesn’t mean that the Cavaliers has no shot of winning the title. As we see time and time again, there are teams that are able to make great comebacks and win the series. Which team was the last team to lost 3-2, then came back and win two straight games to clinch the title? LeBron James’ 2013 Miami Heat team. So, there is still plenty of hope for Cavs fans that their team can pull off a victory. You have the man who has done it before. But obviously, it will tak

2015 NBA Finals (Game 4): Warriors Tied it Up

Andre Iguodala has been the most consistent performer for the Warriors and he was rewarded with a place in the starting line-up as Steve Kerr decides to downsize his line-up. Iguodala replaced Andrew Bogut in the starting five, playing alongside Barnes, Green, Curry, and Thompson. He had a fantastic performance, being the primary defender of LeBron James, scoring 22 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and was 4-9 from 3-point line. The Warriors came out with plenty of energy and intensity, together with the adjustment made to the starting line-up, the Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 103-82 in Game 4, leveling the series at 2-2. The change from Kerr have put more pace to the line-up. This change did cause a lot of problem for their defense. Draymond Green was forced to guard Timothy Mozgov, a significant height disadvantage for Green defensively. But the move has give more variety on the offensive side of the Warriors, and it has proven to be effective. Shaun Living

2015 NBA Finals (Game 3): Defense Rules

The Cleveland Cavaliers continued the same defensive intensity as they did in Game 2, beating the Golden State Warriors 96-91 in 48 minutes of basketball. There were a handful of basketball fans who immediately ruled out the chances of the Cavs to win the title after hearing the news of a season-ending injury to Kyrie Irving after Game 1. But once again, the Cavs prevailed to hold a 2-1 lead heading into Game 4. The Cavs have shown great character in this series. Despite playing with a tons of injuries, they managed to keep up the same defensive intensity. They will need to keep up the same intensity if they want to win the title. On the offense side of the Cavs, they shot better compare to Game 2 and there are more variety in the offense. LeBron James had so far played fantastic basketball in the first three games of the series. His statistics for the first three games (Pts-Reb-Ast): Game 1 (44-8-6), Game 2 (39-16-11), and Game 3 (40-12-8). By looking at these numbers, he has so

2015 NBA Finals (Game 2): The Cavs Strikes Back

Before the start of the game, the Cavs announced that Kyrie Irving will not be playing any more games this season. Surely, this was a massive blow considering they already had season-ending injuries to Kevin Love and Anderson Varejao. But credit to the Cavs for showing up with the same intensity in Game 2 despite losing their no.2 man. It was a game where both teams played terrific defense, but ultimately the Cavs pulled off an overtime victory, 95-93. As expected, Matthew Dellavedova (pic) was inserted into the point guard position to replace Kyrie Irving. Offensively, he only had 9 points. But it was his defensive abilities on MVP Stephen Curry that was crucial in Cavs’ win on Sunday. Curry had an awful shooting night, hitting only 5 shots out of the 23 field goal attempts and 2-15 from the 3-point line. Perhaps Dellavedova had a pretty good record in this year’s playoffs defending opposition’s point guard. According to ESPN, both Jeff Teague and Derrick Rose struggled whe

2015 NBA Finals (Game 1): First Blood by Warriors

Warriors and Cavaliers, both teams were not picked by most basketball fans at the start of the season to make it to the final are now a step away from being the NBA Champion. For the first time ever since 1998, a final won’t feature either Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, or Dwayne Wade. The Warriors are making their first NBA Finals appearance since 1975, while the Cavs are bidding to win their first ever NBA title in franchise history. Perhaps an interesting thing about this series is that we have two rookie coaches on both teams, Steve Kerr and David Blatt. The Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1, winning 108-100 in overtime, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the series. The Cavs had the early lead in the first half, 51-48. But Warriors with the home advantage, came back and leveled things up in 48 minutes of basketball forcing an overtime. To the neutrals, it was certainly an entertaining game and a fantastic opening to the series. The game was evenly matc
