Diary of A Lakers Fan

December 24th, 2015

Now is the worst time being a Lakers fan. It’s just that simple, our team suck. The Lakers suck.

Nobody expect you to win the NBA title. Nobody expect you to make it to the playoffs. Nobody even expect you to win half of your games. All we want is a better showing than the previous two seasons and make the team WATCHABLE. Is that so hard to ask for? I guess at this point of the season, every Lakers left on this planet (The real fans) have the thinking of win or lose, please just look better on the court.

Before the season set off, I gave my team a 30 win target for this season. Now it seems like achieving 20 wins will take some monumental effort from the team.

You can blame almost everybody for this awful team: the front office, the coaching staffs, the players. But most Lakers fans and I will put the most blame on Byron Scott. In case you don’t know who he is, he is the coach that stands by the courtside on every Lakers game with his arm crossed. (Sometimes you even wonder whether is he daydreaming by side of the court) A lot of fans passed on blaming him last season the fact that we have a terrible team compared to this year. Also, Kobe Bryant missed more than half of the season with a shoulder injury.

This season, we added Lou Williams (reigning 6th man of the year), Brandon Bass (veteran guy with great experiences), Roy Hibbert (All-Star center), D’Angelo Russell (2nd draft pick) and a few other free agents and draft pick players. Not to forget, the Black Mamba is relatively healthy for most part of the season. (Let us hope that is still the same case at the end of the season)

On paper, it seems like more talent has been added. But, this is definitely not a team to challenge for a spot in the playoffs since we are playing in the West. Things turned out to be even worse! Awful rotation, terrible defence, horrible offense….. And here are some of things I just don’t understand:

  • Seriously, Ryan Kelly and Robert Sacre? No offense to these two guys, but they don’t belong to the NBA for now.
  • Kobe Bryant at the small forward position? Are you expecting a 37 year old guy to guard players like Kevin Durant, LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard. You should have done something at the start of the season for that position. (Or maybe the front office should have)
  • Lou Williams needs to play from the bench. There is a reason he has only started 54 NBA games in his career (out of 634 games). He is a terrible defender, but can provide you solid scoring.
  • I have so far see no adjustments when it comes to our defense. When are we going to stop teams from draining 120, 130 points against us?
  • And, I should stop here. Things are getting out of hand. But some of the players in this team should take some responsibility of not giving 100% to team. (A coach is not all to blame for every problem in the team)
The only thing that is keeping Lakers fans from attending their game is Kobe Bryant’s farewell final season. (For me, to see how our young core of players is performing and improving)

At this point, I hope the only reason we are keeping Byron Scott is that he is the tank master. He has helped us tanked for that 2nd draft pick last season and he can help us do it again this season. (May the force of the table tennis balls be with our favor come next May) The reason I’m saying that is we need a top three pick or else we are basically tanking for nothing. (The pick goes to 76ers if our pick is not top three)

Every possible record that can be broken, our current team has done it:
  • Worst start in franchise history. A 1-8 record to start the season.
  • Worse win loss percentage in franchise history.
  • Worse defensive rating allowed per 100 possessions in franchise history. (111.5 points allowed)
  • Philadelphia 76ers’ (Another terrible team) only win this season (1-30) was against the Lakers.
And, we are on track to beat the record of a franchise-worst 21-61 recorded last season.

That being said, if you can’t support your team when your team is horrible, then just quit supporting them. Every team has its ups and downs. I truly believe one day in the future the Lakers will rise against and fight for the playoff spot and win that 17th title. (At this point I wouldn’t even want to predict how long will it takes. It will be great if it takes less than 10 years)

With the coming match-up against Clippers at Staples Center, my sole hope is that we won’t get blown away by 30, 40 points. To the players, please make the game watchable on Christmas Day and not embarrassed ourselves on national TV.

Sincerely,
A Lakers Fan

Djokovic's Title to Lose

Yes, the stage is set for Novak Djokovic to finally nail that elusive French Open to complete the career grand slam. If he manage to win at Roland Garros this year, he will become the 8th person (4th person in the open era) in the history of tennis to win the career grand slam, joining an elusive list which include Fred Perry, Don Budge, Rod Laver, Roy Emerson, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The world no.1 player seems to manage to find his form that he produced in 2011 when he went on to win three grand slam titles in a single calendar year. This year, victories at Melbourne, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Rome make him a clear favorite to win the French. Among those victories, he has won 4 out of 5 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments and is riding a 22 match unbeaten streak coming into the second major of the year. He is now 35-2 for the season, with the only two lost came in Doha (Lost to Karlovic) and Dubai (Lost to Federer). Djokovic has come clos...

Andy Murray, Not There Yet

Murray's victory at Flushing Meadows ended Britain's 76 years wait for a male Grand Slam winner.  First of all, I would like to congratulate Andy Murray for winning the 2012 US Open, his first grand slam title. Surely he is now a big sporting icon back in Great Britain by ending the country’s 76 years wait for a grand slam male winner. The last Brit to win a grand slam was Fred Perry back in 1936, when he won the US Open in New York. He shows the world his great mental strength since that Wimbledon final set-back. He went on to win the Olympic Gold Medal just exactly one month after that set-back and now his first grand slam title on his favorite hard court surface. His maiden grand slam doesn’t come at an easy cost. He finally wins his first grand slam after four failed attempts. Both Federer and Nadal won their first grand slam title at their very first grand slam final. While Djokovic won his first on his second attempt. He is definitely one of the talent guys on the ...

Tokyo 2020

It was 5.20am (Tokyo time) on a Sunday morning on September 8 when the announcement of the host city for the 2020 Olympic Games was being made. “The International Olympic Committee has the honor of announcing that the games of the 32nd Olympiad are awarded to the city of Tokyo”. The exact words from outgoing IOC President Jacques Rogge as this will be the last time he’s going to be announcing in front of the camera as the president of IOC. Live scenes from a Tokyo stadium shows a break of joy from the Japanese after the announcement was made, celebrating their winning bid. Tokyo will be the fifth city that is going to host the summer games for more than one time after staging the world’s largest games in 1964.           First, let’s don’t talk about the Fukushima nuclear plant disaster in this article. Of all three candidates, Tokyo is indeed the safest choice of all the candidate cities. Japan has a more stable economy c...
