Our Fellow MPs

Recently, thestar did a survey on our MPs (Member of Parliament) with a game of 20 questions. These questions are about local and international knowledge, policies, news as well as other topics like entertainment and IT. It is understandable that our MPs can’t get all the questions correct. But one particular question that asks our MPs how much is the current minimum wage being implemented in Malaysia drew my attention. There are at least 29 MPs answered it wrongly! Out of those MPs who took part, only 61% answered the question correctly!

From this question, you can clearly see that some of our MPs are not doing their job as a policy maker. Basically, a MP’s task is to bring forward the people’s voice to the parliament and solve the people’s problems related to government agencies. They are the group of people that can propose new laws to the government and also questions the minister on issues related to the nation’s interest. Normally, MPs have a service center in their constituency which allowed people to discuss with their MP on issues related to the government. MPs are not responsible in solving local issues like water leakage, family problems or any consumer complains.

Recently, I went to YouTube and take a look at some of our MPs speech. Most MPs are given at around 20 minutes at each session’s parliament meeting to address themselves and bring up national issues to the attention of all MPs. A speech of 20 minutes is a very short time considering there are so many national issues that could be debatable among all MPs. But sadly, some MPs doesn’t fully utilized the time given and give a speech without anything related to the country. One MP from Sabah which is currently in his fourth term as an MP used up the 20 minutes given just to criticize one particular party of dividing the nation. His remark then causes tension and a war of words between MPs in the house.

In the meantime, a newly-elected MP from Selangor raised issues regarding the increase of drug addicts in the country, the effectiveness of the anti-corruption agency and the car price in the country. While another MP from Penang highlights the issue and difference of underemployment and unemployment and also discussed the role of women in the country’s development.

From these MPs speeches, you know who is fulfilling their duties as an elected representative. It’s a shame that despite being in parliament for the previous 3 terms, the veteran MP I mentioned above still don’t quite know his obligated duties as an elected representatives. There should be no discussion on how various political parties are being operated as it has nothing to do with the people’s interest. We definitely need more MPs like the latter two that discuss national issues regarding the interest of the people.

It’s a pity to see such people get elected as an MP in the house. I’m sure he’s not the only one with such altitude to get elected. Whether it’s from the government or opposition, some MPs just doesn’t take their job serious enough. At times, the speeches that they presented in the parliament session are done by others and not by themselves as they read out every single word that is written on their script.

I think it’s time for our fellow MPs to view their job seriously. The time is up for some of them to start brush up themselves with issues and policies happening around the world. In order to better improve the nations, we need to have MPs in the house to always monitored the government and provide solid suggestions to the present government both from the government and opposition.

Don’t forget the hopes that are placed by your voters when they decide to vote for you in the election. If you failed to perform, you might not get a second opportunity.

[Badminton] Marching to Rio

Victory in Malaysia means Lee Chong Wei is back on track, but the race to Rio remains wide open. As the shuttle from Chen Long sailed long behind the backline, Lee Chong Wei raised his arms high into the air, signalling to the home crowd the moment of the victory. His 11th Malaysian Men’s Singles title, a timely boost for his confidence after suffering two early exits in the last two tournaments. Although it wasn’t a competitive match as many predicted, nevertheless it was a comprehensive and convincing win for Malaysia’s badminton superstar. The victory over Chen Long also means that Chong Wei has levelled their head to head record to twelve a piece, having also won the last two meetings at China and Hong Kong in November. While Sunday’s performance wasn’t the best from Chen Long, struggling badly with the drift inside Melawati Stadium, the three victories over Chen Long signals that Chong Wei might have found the exact game plan to expose Chen Long’s weaknesses. Similar to victor...

After My Test

By this time of my life, I had already encountered hundreds or possibly thousands of exams, tests, quizzes or whatever similar to these. Of course before the exam, you studied hard hoping to score a good grade in the test. But often the reality doesn’t sound like that. Sometimes you did better than you expected, sometimes worse than you expected. I guess the scenario of the latter happens more often than the first one for me.           Of course, you wait for your results of the test. After your test paper is being distributed by your instructor back, you take a look at the score then flip it through and see what are the mistakes being made then you just stuck your paper into the bag. Does that sound familiar?           These actions above are what most students did nowadays including me. Well, recently I have this professor that allows you to resubmit your test to get extra credits. How it works ...
