May 2014

May, the start of the wonderful and warm summer season for countries in the northern hemisphere. But right at the start of the month, it’s always the period where you are dealing with your final exam including me. So, I will try to wrap up things as fast as possible. But still there are many thoughts inside my brain forcing their way out of my mind. It all starts right now……..

The start of the summer movie season! I’m not sure why, but there are really not many movies I’m looking forward too. Not to say there are no good movies out there. Spiderman, Transformers, and X-Men will all hit the screen this summer. If there’s one movie I’m looking forward of all these famous franchise movies, I must say it’s the new Transformers movie - Transformers: Age of Extinction. We will see a new cast, a brand new storyline which pretty much not really related to the first three films, and not to forget the introduction of Dinobots to the current Autobots and Decepticons.

The UEFA Champions League Final! It’s always the perfect stage for the closing of the European football season. What a way to end the final with a Madrid derby in the final. Last year, we had an all-German final. This year, we have an all-Spanish final. It’s hard for me to pick who I’m going to support. But I’m putting my support more towards Atletico Madrid because of the club’s history and the evolution of the team. It’s hard to imagine a few years back the team was a regulation-battle club. It took them just a few years to transform into a title-challenger club. Football fans just loves the energy of their young manager - Diego Simone, the way he transforms the team, and most definitely the positive brand of football the team has been playing. Surprisingly, the club has never win the champions league before. I just love to see a new winner hoisting the trophy high in the air after the match. It should be an exciting final come May 17 in Lisbon as I don’t expect either teams to park their busses.

The truth! A missing plane in March, then a sunken ship in April. Two tragic events that contains a lot of mysteries. We are still nowhere close to finding what happen to MH370. Authorities with all the calculation of where the aircraft might have gone done hasn’t even found a single piece of wreckage till today. We still don’t know what really causes the ship to sink at the coast of South Korea. As I said, it takes some time to investigate and to come up to a conclusion on what really happened. At the end of the day, everybody just want the truth. But the truth does not come easy and sometimes the truth even comes at a heavy price.

Coldplay! One of my favorite bands is releasing their sixth studio album titled “Ghost Stories” on May 19.

I guess I’m done with all the writing for now. Time to go back to the study desk and continue my revision. Until then, see you next time!

[Badminton] Marching to Rio

Victory in Malaysia means Lee Chong Wei is back on track, but the race to Rio remains wide open. As the shuttle from Chen Long sailed long behind the backline, Lee Chong Wei raised his arms high into the air, signalling to the home crowd the moment of the victory. His 11th Malaysian Men’s Singles title, a timely boost for his confidence after suffering two early exits in the last two tournaments. Although it wasn’t a competitive match as many predicted, nevertheless it was a comprehensive and convincing win for Malaysia’s badminton superstar. The victory over Chen Long also means that Chong Wei has levelled their head to head record to twelve a piece, having also won the last two meetings at China and Hong Kong in November. While Sunday’s performance wasn’t the best from Chen Long, struggling badly with the drift inside Melawati Stadium, the three victories over Chen Long signals that Chong Wei might have found the exact game plan to expose Chen Long’s weaknesses. Similar to victor...

The Nadal-Djokovic Rivalry

It was a five setter, an epic tennis match in which both men trying their best to outwit, outlast and outplayed their opponent. A grand slam tennis match between Nadal and Djokovic doesn’t disappoint all tennis fans. A battle not just only of skills; it is also a physical and mental battle that pushes both guys to the limit. The most impressive part was that even thought they were playing for more than 4 hours, both men were still able to hit beautiful shots and angled winners down the lines. Eventually, Nadal came on top this time beating Djokovic 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-7, 9-7 in 4 hours and 37 minutes.                When the match was unfolding, I have a sudden thought that the process of the match developed almost identical as the final of the 2012 Australia Open. Djokovic won that match 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7, 7-5 in 5 hours 53 minutes. At that time, Djokovic was serving for the match in th...

The Low Cost Battle

According to International Air Transport Association (IATA), air travel continues to expand in a healthy way. Compare to the same period in 2012, the overall demand for air travel increase 5.6%, while capacity rose by 5.2%. In the region of Asia Pacific, international traffic rose by 3.7% in May with China and Japan recorded 13.4% and 5.9% of growth in their respective domestic market. The statistics clearly show that air travel performed relatively well across the world despite the global economy facing some uncertainty.              Air Asia which is the largest low-cost airline group in Asia is slowly losing its ground to nearby rivals-Lion Air. According to Centre for Aviation (CAPA), Lion Air currently holds 35% of Southeast Asia’s capacity thanks to its extensive Indonesia domestic market. While, Air Asia has a 32% market share in the region with a mere 2% of the Indonesia domestic market. T...
